What is Wellbeing?

Wellbeing in Adelaide?

How to keep it.

Consider this hypothetical scenario:

Stop and think about the things that are most important to you, the things that fulfil you, and motivate your decisions. You might have said being with family, the freedom to choose, work/life balance, being financially stable, being healthy, the ability to travel etc. Now I invite you to segment these activities even further? Take a moment to think about you as your future self in these scenarios in your mind.

Would these things be just as enjoyable if you were in pain or had preventable conditions that limited you? Would they be just as enjoyable or even possible without your health, without the freedom to move your body as you wish to?

It wouldn’t be far from incorrect if I suggested most of you didn’t visualise yourselves in the future with limited freedom of movement or poor health. But for many people, and as we age, if we don’t prioritise the aspect of prevention and upkeep enough, it affects us into the future. We think we can just do some quick fixes at a random point in the distant future to enable us to live our future lives.

Now think to the future, could you go for long walks on the beach or explore national parks or cities, drive across the country in your car, perhaps towing a caravan, or maybe in the future get back on an aeroplane to explore foreign lands or even the far-flung places of Australia?  Could you get on the floor and play with your grandchildren and lift them up at the playground to play on the monkey bars? What you do today is the recipe for your future self.

If you do not make time to work on your body now in order to improve or at a minimum maintain your freedom of movement, your movement options will gradually become limited. It is not a matter of if they will, it is a matter of when they will. No one is immune to the effects of ageing and/or poor health.

So now I invite you to once again contemplate and prioritise what is most important to you? The freedom to choose and almost everything else we may wish our future independent selves to be and do comes with a core that requires freedom of movement and freedom from pain.

City Physio

At City Physio, while we expertly treat all manner of injuries, conditions and immediate pains, we also truly care about your overall health and ongoing wellbeing. The role of City Physio isn’t limited to treating problems after they arise, but also in the experienced management and prevention of future injuries. Our physiotherapists have the knowledge and skills to educate you on how to prevent future injuries.

Physiotherapists understand that by listening to the body and all its signals you can reduce the risk of an injury occurring. By paying attention to small aches, pains and stiffness, then treating these little issues before they potentially turn into a long rehabilitation process, many injuries can be prevented.

Physiotherapy can help you to reach many health-related goals as well as minimise the risk of injury. Working with a physio is a great way to receive guidance and improve strength through a series of exercises and techniques to benefit overall health and wellbeing.

Our proactive approach will help you not only put out the “spot fires” that have started to interfere with your life but prevent issues from arising in the first place. We address the causes behind your issues before they become difficult to deal with.
