Shoulder Pain Adelaide

Bullet Proof Shoulders | Shoulder Pain

At City Physio I’ve recently been seeing patients with minor shoulder issues – most of which can be easily prevented so I thought I’d write a small article on it.

The majority of shoulder pain that presents to our clinic is the result of two simple faults:

  1. A Weak rotator cuff
This causes impingement issues due to poor stabilisation of the humeral head (top of arm bone).
  2. Poor starting position.
This causes impingement by closing down the sub acromial space (space below the tip of the collar bone) needed for the humeral head.

A weak rotator cuff is usually easily fixed via some reasonably simple exercises! These exercises can help office workers, gymnasts and body builders alike. they are like core strengthening for your shoulders.

Resisted external rotation and internal rotation target most of the muscles needed for stabilisation of your shoulder. You can do them by setting up a resistance band on a door handle, locking your elbow to your side, then pulling in or out depending on which group you are targeting.

It is best to come in to see us for an appointment so we can perform a diagnostic assessment, treat any symptoms and teach you the correct way to perform your rotator cuff exercises.
