Pilates, Dynamic Core Stability Adelaide and Therapeutic Rehab Exercise
There is a lot of confusion out there as to where to turn for safe and effective therapeutic exercise. Our physiotherapists have the qualifications, expertise, and knowledge to help you with your recovery. This is especially true when it comes to injury or dysfunctional movement patterns that create pain. Our physiotherapists can lead you through a Pilates-based therapeutic exercise programme to assist your rehabilitation.
There has been a big change of what you can claim an exercises class for under your private health insurance cover. Pilates for maintenance & any classes not supervised by physiotherapists are unfortunately no longer being covered by any health insurance provider.
The good news is that at City Physiotherapy we consider your exercise programme as a part of your rehabilitation from injury or movement dysfunction. Therefore, we offer supervised therapeutic exercise classes.
Dynamic core stability exercises and therapeutic exercise is a safe & effective way to perform rehabilitation exercises under physiotherapy supervision. It’s suitable for both men and women and is good for all age groups.
At City Physio, your physiotherapist will provide an individual and personalised approach to your physio rehab including dynamic core stability exercise. No matter what your fitness level or injury history is, we will design an individualised exercise program tailored to your needs.
Clinical Pilates Classes
Clinical Pilates is essentially about you learning to control your body, its position and its movement patterns.
Why is that important? If your movement patterns are not controlled, you end up overusing some muscles and underusing other muscles – creating an imbalance. This can, over time, place excess stress and tension on your body’s neuromusculoskeletal system. This stress can lead to injury, wear and tear, and dysfunctional movement patterns becoming your new normal; usually, you will notice this as feeling aches and pains, tight, sore muscles, stiff joints, loss of range of movement and flexibility.
Pilates teaches us to break the pattern of dysfunctional movement and awaken areas of your body that have essentially become dormant. In other words, we wake up muscles that need to be used to support you.
Our physio’s will help you switch on your dormant muscles and improve their strength and endurance. You’ll see improvements in your body’s overall fitness, strength, flexibility and a reduction in pain. Our clinical Pilates physiotherapists are motivated to get your body back to its optimum performance.
Therapeutic exercise classes with pilates
Your physiotherapist may recommend exercise-based treatment as a part of your overall treatment plan. This may include exercises to restore functional core strength and stability to support your spine. At this point, you can use the equipment independently and attend therapeutic exercise classes or independent Pilates sessions in our gym.
New to therapeutic exercise or dynamic core stability? That’s okay! That is why at City Physiotherapy you will only perform specific exercises as a part of your overall treatment strategy.
Our physiotherapists will look after you and will guide you. From your initial appointment all the way through into a supervised exercise class, you’re in safe hands at City Physio.

You will work with our physiotherapist 1:1 whilst they assess and then devise a specific exercise programme for you. Once you are safe performing your therapeutic exercises, you may progress into a class for supervision. Your physiotherapist will need to routinely reassess you to ensure your programme remains safe during your pregnancy and postnatal period.
Dynamic core stability classes with pilates
Dynamic core stability is a method of exercise and movement re-education. The basis of dynamic core stability is about control of your body, its position, and its movement. physiotherapists use this method for therapeutic rehabilitation. We use a variety of equipment here at City Physiotherapy. Some are spring loaded to help support and guide your movements during the therapeutic exercise classes.
The main focus is to reactivate and strengthen your dormant deep abdominal – your core, trunk, neck and back muscles. The core muscles stabilise your spine. Having a strong core in Physio terms means that you have the foundation for good posture and controlled active movements.
In the long term, the aim is to reduce your back pain or neck pain and improve your quality of life. Our Adelaide physios may use the latest technology real-time ultrasound imaging to assist with your learning.
Your physiotherapist will reassess your exercise programme from time to time and this may be upgraded or downgraded for varying reasons. Your physiotherapist will work with you to adjust your therapeutic exercise so you are getting the best possible outcome for you.
