Vertigo Treatment with Physiotherapy

Are you Experiencing Dizziness? Learn about Vertigo Treatment at City Physiotherapy
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is a common disorder arising from the inner ear. BPPV is often associated with brief periods of vertigo or a ‘spinning’ sensation upon changes of position to the head.  This can be as simple as rolling over in bed, looking up or down, as a result of head injury or sudden head movements. Other symptoms along with vertigo are dizziness, a feeling of being lightheaded or unsteady, loss of balance and occasionally nausea. Whilst the cause is unknown, it is believed that one of the major causes of BPPV is the movement of crystals in the inner ear. These crystals known as otoconia become dislodged from their original position. It is the movement of these heavier crystals that can cause the feeling of vertigo or ’spinning’.

City Physiotherapy can help! Medical imaging is not required to diagnose BPPV, in fact, a simple test can be undertaken by our physiotherapists. If this test produces a positive result, our specially trained Physiotherapists can treat your vertigo (BPPV) with a number of simple movements and teach you the skills required to do this at home. The specific movements use gravity to reposition the crystals in the inner ear. It is a simple and pain-free manoeuvre that used over time and is the most effective method in treating BPPV.
Our Physiotherapists will perform an assessment of your head and neck joint movement as well and if there are any other factors that may, in part, be contributing to your symptoms as well,  such as lightheadedness or nausea, they will be able to help you with treatment for that too.
If you are suffering from BPPV or any of the other symptoms associated with vertigo, give us a call and book in to see one of our physiotherapists who are experienced in this type of treatment. Don’t keep suffering from a spinning head, we can help you get back to feeling more balanced again.
