Women's Health & Physiotherapy for Pregnant Women

During pregnancy and after giving birth, women may experience a number of complaints which can be assisted with physiotherapy intervention

Common issues during pregnancy can include low back pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, sacroiliac joint pain, pelvic floor weakness and incontinence. These problems can be attributed to the change in posture due to the forward shift in centre of gravity and associated weight gain, and pregnancy related hormones. Some of these complaints may continue after giving birth as well as the development of diastasis recti, separation of the superficial abdominal muscles.

Physiotherapy while pregnant may assist the above problems through mobilisation, soft tissue techniques, and stretching and strengthening exercises. Education regarding movement patterns and support braces may also be helpful.

Participation in gentle physical activity can also have positive benefits through pregnancy. Why not try our Women's Health & Pregnancy Pilates Classes based around low impact strength and flexibility exercises to help develop a strong core to aid you through your maternal journey.
